Jianan Zhou, PhD Candidate at the Design Psychology Lab, just published her first study examining how people interact with what they think are AI chatbots.
Jianan’s study shows that humans are prone to treating AI bots similar to other humans when they believe the bots are being ostracised by others. Despite this, older participants were more likely to report feeling sympathy for the AI bots, as opposed to younger participants. More information about the study can be found on the Imperial College website, Science Daily, Theravive, and TechXplore.
The study is published in Human Behaviour and Emerging Technologies.
